Plant Strawberries

Are strawberry plants bad for dogs?

Question by smurfette: Are strawberry plants bad for dogs?
My puppy (14 week black Lab female) tore the leaves off one of my strawberry plants… most of it was laying on the ground, so I doubts she ate much. I’ve moved the pot out of her reach now, and this was last night and she still seems fine. Is this harmful?

dogs are so stupid. I’m surprised she didn’t’ fill her stomach with the dirt and rocks in the surrounding area of your strawberry plant.

    i doubt it’ll do damage, it’s natural isn’t it?

The leaves are not harmful. Had she been a full grown dog that was pregnant it may have been a slightly different story since strawberry leaves induce uterine contractions so the puppies could have been born to early.

Don’t worry, she is fine. (note that dogs do like the flavor of strawberries so keep those plants away or she will eat all your berries and you will get none!)

In my opinion, dogs are supposed to be meat eaters. That is the way that the Creator of the universe made them.

Yes, Strawberry Plants are bad for dogs.

They are highly addictive…And can lead Man’s-Best-Friend into a downward spiral…Often leading to a life of crime…in order to support this nasty habit.

You shouldn’t have moved the Pot out of her reach…It’s actually a much milder drug than Strawberry Leaves.

I’d suggest you both consider Counselling immediately…Perhaps you can get to the Root of this Problem!

All plants have toxins in them to resist insects. In most cases plants are not harmful to dogs. Not enough toxin to hurt a dog. There are some ornamental plants that are deadly for dogs.

If the plants grow any strawberries be sure it is away from her or she will eat all the berries. Dogs really love strawberries and they are good for them.
